COVID-19 Syndromic Surveillance

Overview

The first wave of Covid-19 in early 2020 proved  extremely challenging to high riskers i.e Police staff, elders, sanitary workers, inmates of institutions etc… particularly the police staff was on roads implementing lockdowns and restrictions formulated by the government to mitigate Covid-19, at the same time, they were at high risk of contracting the disease which demotivated them on duty, thereby getting insecure. High mortalities were also witnessed during the said period due to absence of regular screening of vital parameters.

Approach

Free Covid-19 Syndromic Surveillance
Taking Suo-moto cognizance of the above problem area during a pandemic, we commenced regular screening of body temperature and oxygen saturation levels of all police staff by visiting each police station and checkpoints across Mira Bhayander and Gorai, Mumbai amidst the lockdowns and completed 446 days of regular screenings and maintaining records of the said parameter

Outcome

1500+ beneficiaries directly benefitted from the above intervention, early detection of symptoms and underlying symptoms resulted in early diagnosis and treatment of patients, thereby higher recovery rated and zero mortality reported among the beneficiaries mentioned hereinabove.
